Arsenal – The end of the season 2020/2021!

Arsenal – The end of the season 2020/2021!

Whichever way you look at it, Mikel Arteta’s first full season in charge of Arsenal has been underwhelming at best. An eighth place finish means an end to a run of 25 successive campaigns in Europe, a record the club were extremely proud of.

There have been calls for his head from some sections of the fanbase while others have insisted he requires more time – he’s wasted no time in taking over from Mesut Ozil as the most divisive figure at the club.

Here’s a review of Arsenal’s season by way of a report card, complete with a final grade.

Despite finishing on 61 points – five more than the Gunners achieved during the 2019/20 season – they were unable to improve on their eighth-placed finish. Last season, a total of 61 points would have seen the club finish 6th, but this time around it wasn’t even good enough to see them sneak into the Europa Conference League.

13 defeats is simply unacceptable for a club the size of Arsenal, especially when you consider seven of those came at the Emirates Stadium. Inconsistency has been their biggest problem and many have put that down to the manager’s tinkering, his overly defensive tactics at times, and his failure to strike the right balance in the first half of the season.

To be fair to Arteta, their Premier League form since Christmas has improved dramatically with only Manchester United and Manchester City picking up more points than the north Londoners during that period. Signs of progress?

The decision to abandon the back three and introduce a specialist creative midfielder to the mix has led to the team creating more chances, scoring more goals and subsequently picking up more points. Emile Smith Rowe’s emergence has been key in the improvement as has the arrival of Martin Odegaard on loan. It’s proved to be too little too late but if we’re to criticise the Arsenal boss’ approach in the early part of the season, it’s only fair we give him credit when something he implements has a positive impact.

All the Arsenal fans around the whole globe believe in Arteta’s process! There are huge hopes for upcoming summer!!!

A BID FOR ARSENAL. BREAKING NEWS…

A BID FOR ARSENAL. BREAKING NEWS…

Spotify boss Daniel Ek is reportedly not backing down in his attempts to become Arsenal Football Club’s new owner.

After Ek’s first offer for the London club was rejected in May, The UK’s Daily Mail reports this week that the 38-year-old billionaire is set to raise his offer to try tempt Arsenal’s existing owners, Stan and Josh Kroenke, to hand over the club.

The Daily Mail article cites sources close to Ek who claim that the SPOT boss is a preparing a new bid ‘north of £2 billion’ (approx. $2.8bn), and that Ek is ‘not going anywhere and wants to get a deal done’

In a tweet sent on Saturday May 15, Ek said that “Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bid for Arsenal Football Club”.

He added: “I think it’s important to correct the record – this week an offer was made to both [Arsenal owner] Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at board and a golden share for the supporters.

“They replied that they don’t need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change.”

In a statement released by Stan and Josh Kroenke at the end of April, the pair said they remained “100 per cent committed to Arsenal” and that “our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game”.

Rumours around Ek’s interest in the club began in mid-April, with Ek tweeting at the time: “As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I’d be happy to throw my hat in the ring.”

Injuries – Arsenal: Hector Bellerin, David Luiz, Kieran Tierney…

Injuries – Arsenal: Hector Bellerin, David Luiz, Kieran Tierney…

🔻 Hector Bellerin:

James Benge reported that the injury Hector Bellerin picked up in Arsenal’s previous fixture against Chelsea is expected to keep him out of the last two games of the season.

Benge added that whilst Mikel Arteta convinced Bellerin to stay last summer, both sides have now accepted it’s time to part ways. There have been no decisions on where the right-back will end up, but he’s looking to move on in the upcoming window.

As a result, it’s very possible that Bellerin’s substitute appearance in the win at Stamford Bridge was his final game for the club.

Hopefully, Bellerin can make a speedy recovery and sort his future as soon as possible. Whether he’s leaving or not, it’s better to sort the situation earlier in the summer, as it will likely affect other business.(injuries)

🔻  David Luiz:

Right knee. David is making very good progress and is hoping to integrate back into light training with the squad next week.(injuries)

Fortunately, the injury appears not to be serious. Whether Luiz could feature in the Europa League second leg against Villarreal, but it seems he is expected to return in the coming weeks.

Even if Arsenal make the Europa League final, there are still just over three weeks until the end of the season. So if the club are confident Luiz will play again before that, the injury really can’t be that bad.

The team showed some improvement with Luiz in the back four against Newcastle United before his injury. He played his usual progressive long passes, including in the buildup to the first goal.

Most likely, Arsenal are going to miss that option in the Villarreal second leg. But if they make the final, they’ll want him available for Manchester United.(injuries)

🔻 Kieran Tierney:

Left knee.  Kieran continues to make positive progress and is hoping to be back in training within two to three weeks.

When Arsenal said that Kieran Tierney would be back in four-to-six weeks, most people thought that meant an end to his season, even if the club wasn’t saying that. There are only six weeks left, after all, at the time.  But, of course, that would be a normal player, and Tierney is anything but normal.

Tierney had already missed 28 Arsenal games prior to his last injury, including six games from January 19, 2021, because of another knee problem.

In the end, Tierney missed seven games and returned for Arsenal’s second leg against Villarreal.(injuries)

Arsenal:KROENKE OUT? Why Arsenal fans are about to declare war on billionaire owner?

Arsenal:KROENKE OUT? Why Arsenal fans are about to declare war on billionaire owner?

Gunners fans are set to stage a protest against the club’s ownership ahead of Friday night’s game against Everton.

Those were the seven words that closed out the open letter to fans that Arsenal published late on Tuesday evening when announcing they were withdrawing from the Super League project.

Those were also seven words which summed up what Arsenal fans would see as the cowardice of Stan Kroenke.

As the sole owner of Arsenal, his signature should have been put at the end of that letter.

But he hid again behind a wall of silence, just as he did on Thursday night when he left his son, Josh, to face the music during a fiery conference call with infuriated supporters.

But that did little to quell the unrest. Arsenal fans have grown tired of Kroenke’s absent ownership. His refusal to put his name to the monumental errors that have been made in the past week is seen by many as the final straw.

„He is the overseas franchise investor who embarrassed and shamed our club and embarrassed English football. Why isn’t his name on the apology?

„This is someone who took over Arsenal 10 years ago making a legal promise to the takeover panel that he would talk with supporters and supporter groups. And how many meetings have there been since then? Not one by Stan Kroenke himself.

The majority of Arsenal fans were aghast when they first heard the news that their club would be among the 12 founder members of the new Super League.

Mikel Arteta on #KroenkeOut protests:

„The fans have to express. It’s their right and they have to do it freely. It’s time to leave them space to express themselves and now somehow we have to get them closer to us, believing in what we do.”

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given his reaction to the news that several teams are set to pull out of the European Super League.;

Wenger who had predicted something like this could happen as long ago as in 2009, stated on Monday that he was in opposition to the move as it threatened both the Premier League and the principle of sporting merit.;

“I would say that’s a bad idea. Football has to stay united, it’s the most important thing,” Wenger said to talkSPORT.
